Influences. . .

Recently, while working, I encountered a young woman who was a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan, but was clueless when I mentioned that there was another Velvet Undergound DVD (there is, it's good, pick it up today). She had no damn clue who the Velvet Underground was, but when she saw the cover to the first album, she said it looked familiar. It's my suspicion though this this is because the picture of an opened and unopened banana painted by Andy Warhol (who was patron to the band) is both, highly iconic, and the basis for the Dandy Warhols "Welcome to the Monkey House" artwork.

So, I set out to make a mix using many of the artists that seem to be either name dropped or influential in the music made today. Also, you can see Nick Horby's book, and John Cusack's movie, High Fidelity for a good deal more. This list is far from complete, and is based on my own, limited understanding.

Influences:

1. Depeche Mode - Master and Servant
2. The Velvet Underground - Venus In Furs
3. 13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me
4. The Smiths - Shakespeare's Sister
5. Stiff Little Fingers - State Of Emergency
6. Pink Fairies - Do It
7. Siouxsie And The Banshees - Carcass
8. Iggy Pop & The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
9. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
10. Nick Drake - Way To Blue
11. Nico - eulogy to lenny bruce
12. Syd Barrett - Dark Globe
13. The Velvet Underground - Heroin
