Loretta's Unicorn

While drinking and eating at the Field Irish Pub, we were listening to a guy perform who was a member of the Irish Rovers, Ian Millar. He did a couple songs by John Prine, a couple the Rovers made famous, and sitting there it made me want to make this mix. He'd also sang a version of the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" that truly was moving. . . (He did it before he claimed he was too drunk to remember the words).

This mix is currently on rotation in the car too.

Loretta's Unicorn

1. John Prine - Please Don't Bury Me
2. Shooter Jennings - Walk Of Life
3. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Fortune Teller
4. Donovan - Season Of The Witch
5. The Irish Rovers - The Unicorn
6. Nick Garrie - The Nightmare Of J. B. Stanislas
7. Stanley Clarke - Back In The Woods
8. Shuggie Otis - Ice Cold Daydream
9. Pieta Brown - In My Mind I Was Talkin' To Loretta
10. Bettye Lavette - take me like i am (i want to be your baby)

Happy Thanksgiving.

A little something different for this Thanksgiving. It's from my favourite Liberal Talk Radio show: The Stephanie Miller Show. And consequently, Jim Ward has become one of my favourite voice actors.

This little bit is just not for kids. . .

Also, I am beginning to formulate my best of the Year. Frightening, huh?

And one final thing, I've been listening to a pair of podcasts off and on Rogue's Gallery and Jazz: Profiles.

Rogue's Gallery is a three hour epic Prog Rock podcast that's already introduced me to a new favourite band Pineapple Thief.

Jazz: Profiles is a series of profiles on the Greats hosted by Nancy Wilson. It maybe demystifying, but I find learning about the legends helps me understand their music. It certainly did with Sun Ra for me.

And for now, a Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I've got a new mix ready to go, but I'm still deciding what to say about it. I promise you, it will have Unicorns.

Reverend Knights

I know I've promised and promised that I'd keep this current, but it'd been damned near impossible as we slip into the season. One thing comes up, then another. I find myself thinking of things I want to post, but just don't get around to it and have second thoughts about the subject.

For now, I've got two things. . . The picture is one man's personal homage to Bob Marley shaved into his hair. One Love, I guess.

Our mix for this week is pretty much made up of stuff I've been listening to for the past month. It features and Alanis Morrisette cover by Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree and Blackfield. Some new Sigur Ros and Stanley Clarke, both albums constantly on my mp3 player.

I'm also digging the all out decadence that is Maynard's latest effort: Puscifer. Check out their website too, there's tons of goodies there.

Reverend Knights

1. Steven Wilson - Thank You
2. Little Atlas - Preying
3. The Tangent - Lost In London
4. Pineapple Thief - No one leaves this earth
5. Puscifer - Rev. 22:20 (Dry Martini mix)
6. Blackfield - Lullaby
7. Stanley Clarke - Come On
8. Muse - knights of cydonia
9. Sigur Rós - Hafsol
